Artist Statement
Diane's creativity has taken many forms throughout her life
always conscious of the design elements in the world around her, she has found expression for her interpretations through fiber arts, printmaking, assemblages, basketry, pottery and, her first love, drawing and painting. She studied fine art at Western Washington University, basketry in Hawaii, and received a degree in graphic design at Seattle Central Community College. Her focus is to create intuitively and to allow images and designs to emerge spontaneously from within
the outcome is usually a surprise even to herself. After years of carefully planning results and expecting perfection, her goal is, instead, to enjoy the experience and learn about life in the process. In 1996 she left a professional career in Human Resources and a beach home in the Pacific Northwest to move to Abiquiu, New Mexico and has found an environment that supports her philosophy of art and life.
Drawing has always been a part of my life
.it is an extension of what I absorb in the activities of everyday life and an expression of the spiritual aspects of my experiences. I like to experiment with a diversity of media and methods, primarily colored pencil, graphite and linoleum block printing. My goal is to allow the creative energy to flow through me...the resulting image is a gift.
I truly enjoy what I do.
