Kathie Lostetter

Animal Spirit Sculpture
|
Artist Statement
Kathie Lostetter studied filmmaking and art at the University of Miami in Florida but developed her polychrome terracotta sculpture from her life and dreams while living in Abiquiu amidst children, plants, and animals.
Her mythic animal sculpture is influenced by tales from ancient cultures as well as our sense of wild animal's incredible spiritual integrity and wisdom. Animal helpers have emerged throughout time and have been worked with by shamans and visionaries of many cultures. Her sculpture also reflects the expression of nurturing, the loving care of the parent to the young.
In her words:
"Amidst the technology and patterns of modern life, I still find the random encounters with nature to contain the supernaturally charged fabric of myth. My visionary imagery comes from dreams and relationships with animals, plants, people and all natural phenomena."
