Artist Statement
I have been knitting for over 30 years and have also had a life-long interest and love of Native American art and lore. In 1993 I merged the two loves into Urban Eagle Designs. My goal is to combine two traditions - Native American weaving (and other arts) and European knitting - into unique, wearable art. My "totem" sweaters are designed to bring a sense of well-being to the wearer and to honor the Native American Spirit and traditions.
My sweaters are needle knit by me from naturally dyed fiber, most of it hand spun. Each stitch is lovingly and thoughtfully done. The designs are carefully thought out - each element added for a reason - and no two are alike. In 1996 I was honored to have my work included in the critically acclaimed book "Knitting in America."
I knit and spin for the love of it. I have also been a freelance Graphic Designer since 1980. I am currently growing medicinal herbs for our herb company, Urban Eagle Herb Co.and natural dye plants for my one-of-a-kind designs on our farm in Youngsville.

Hand Spun Yarn
In 1996 I learned to spin and a whole new world opened up to me. Until that time I thought the only type of wool was merino. I had no idea that there were so many different breeds of sheep producing so many different types of wool. Among the different breeds I have learned to spin are Romney, Cotswold, and Churro. I use all the yarn I spin myself and my pieces are, more often than not, knit from all hand spun. Spinning is just one more element of human energy that goes into my work.
