Artist Statement
Val Goldenbrook was born in southern California during the baby boom. She served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era, and then she set sail for the Island of Martha’s Vineyard. During her years on the Vineyard she was a police officer, an elected town official and the owner of an alternative book store. She is an accomplished pilot and a martial artist as well as a published author with a degree in creative writing from Goddard College in Plainfield, Vermont.
Over a decade ago she landed on a mesa top in Georgia O’Keeffe country where her photographer’s eye was born. She lives in Abiquiu and her work comprises views of the famous Pedernal Mountain, the clear, deep-blue skyscapes of Northern New Mexico, and the red rocks that embrace the title - Land of Enchantment. Her digital paintings include a series of burros, blues, saloons and churches. Her first photography recognition came with a piece called Ansel Moon, which won her an award with the International Society of Photographers.
