ARTIST STATEMENT Using my art as the medium, I share my inner visions, hopes, and dreams with my public. Painting is a visual and therefore light based art form; light reflecting off light. Sharing with others is one of my earliest reasons for creating art as a child. For the last two decades, I have been refining the communication of my vision.

My sculpture deals with much the same subject matter as my paintings, Pre Colombian and Catholic Imagery filtered through my native Mexican experience. There is a heavy emphasis on the angelic and my inner psychological and spiritual processes. Most pieces start with my constructing a wire armature that is then built upon using corn husks, pasta de caña, an ancient pre-Columbian method of using the pitch of corn stalks to create something like a paper maché, and woven willow or grasses. I then add other natural materials, 22k gold leaf and precious and semi-precious stones. Before adding the gold and stones, I paint the entire piece with a varnish/sealer that I make from an old recipe of Piñon Pine pitch and grain alcohol.
