ARTIST STATEMENT I mainly carve crosses, Kiva ladders, retablos, walking-sticks, and birds.  I’m also a Tourist Guide and provide information about our village and local valley.  I’ve been a woodcarver all of my life but I carve more now that I’m retired.  Carving gives me something to do while sitting on my porch waiting for the tourist to find their way to my door.  In 2008 my book, titled The Genízaro and the Artist, was published.  It tells the story of my knowing and working for the artist, Georgia O’Keeffe, over the 40 years she was my neighbor, around the corner, here in Abiquiú.
