Beverley Ashe

A self-taught artist from New York City, Beverley Ashe has lived in Abiquiu, New Mexico since 1995.

Ashe paints the dark side of sentiment - with flawed angels, primitive mermaids, bad horses & pretty flowers. Using brilliant color, decorative
elements and raw line, she creates an eccentric narrative that is poisonous and humorous by turn.

In my studio, I'm exploring a kind of dark dream where secret games are played, and nightmares can be beautiful. The images are drawn from archetype, dreams & surroundings. They're a strange brew of sexual tension, vulnerability, humor, anxiety and anger. You could say it's a sort of feral whimsy a little dark fun.
