As a child growing up in the culturally rich town of Abiquiu located in northern New Mexico, I was constantly inspired to create. I primarily draw my inspiration from the environmental surroundings and translate theses dreams into oil on canvas. New Mexico’s enchanting landscapes, unique architecture, and historical churches serve as the creative catalyst for most of my work. Drawing and paining have been a part of my life since I was a child and a majority of the techniques used are self-taught.
Over the years I have become interested in a wider arena of art, experimenting with wood, different mediums of painting and, metalsmithing. Recently, I’ve been perfecting several jewelry techniques, but there is only one particular technique that I’ve fully embraced. The patterns created using Mokume Gane (which translates to “wood-grain metal”) remind me of the beauty that I am surrounded by and resemble the unique New Mexico geological formations. Inherent in the Mokume Gane style is the fact that no two pieces can ever be identical.
I am currently working to produce a large body of artwork - paintings, drawings, and jewelry - that fully reflect my ideas and experiences.
