I think the task ahead of Americans in the 21st century is to discover our collective soul. I live and work in Abiquiu because I feel closest to the American soul here. The poetry that expresses this spirit is best presented in small, hand-made books that encourage the reader to slow down and enter a single poem at a time. Also, I find that the act of making books helps balance out the cerebral and emotional drain of making poetry.
