Mixed media, drawing, painting, collage and printmaking
After classical drawing and painting studies in Munich and Berlin Germany, my work began to develop into the more abstract form that it has today. Concerns in my work are time, pressure, change and fragility. Matter collides and interacts in a fusion of color and geometry which contrasts with free nature forms. Lines are important because they exert a uniquely human influence over natural shapes. I use many materials – mixed media. The basis is often acrylic paint with the addition of paper, pastels, charcoal, pencil and sometimes oil paint. Also, ideas borrowed from physics “Quantum Mechanics and String Theory” are integrated into the work.
I was born in Texas. After completing a BA at the University of Dallas and an MFA at Texas Christian University, I studied further art and art history at Ludwig Maximillian University in Munich and at the Hochschule der Kunst in Berlin. Later as a scholarship student, I worked with Bruce Dorfman at the Art Student’s League in NYC where I am a lifetime member.
A few years ago, my husband and I visited a place in New Mexico called Abiquiu. We liked it very much and eventually bought a house with property near there in Medanales. In the last years we have lived in New York State, but we decided to move to the enchanted state of New Mexico and our place in Medanales where we now make our home with our dog.

Magical Realism narrative oil paintings and 3D Mixed Media Assemblage
Using my art as the medium, I share my inner visions, hopes, and dreams with others. Art is a visual and therefore light-based art form; light reflecting off light. I paint and construct with light and honesty.

Non representative abstract oil paintings
The last dozen years, I have been working in series of 4 or 12 paintings – like variations on several themes.
The forms are abstract and simplified mountains, mesas, rolling hills, rivers, sometimes people, kachinas, lizards, birds or fish (no snakes!). A bunch of pencil drawings are made and the “keepers” are redrawn and made into paintings.
The pallet is mostly the same throughout a series – pure color with white and other simple mixtures of two pure colors with white.
Some paintings have names. Names are derived from some of what I see or imagine when I face the painting. Sometimes I think all the other paintings are silently awaiting their names.

Hand made furniture and other works of art from local wood
I love every aspect of creating things out of wood: the designing, the construction, and the finishing. It engages my mind and my soul. The wood speaks to me and to a certain extent, determines what I will create.

Poetry, book publishing, word art
My poetry seeks out the natural world’s vibrant character and reflects back its many personalities—including the human ones. I believe poetry should be accessible and stimulating, which I hope to achieve in my own work with mischief, quiet irreverence, and simple vulnerability.
As the publisher of Casa Urraca Press, I commit myself to designing aesthetically and tangibly pleasing books of poetry and creative nonfiction that support the work of daring, eloquent Southwestern authors. Limited Studio Tour editions of my poetry books are printed and bound in New Mexico on exquisite heavyweight paper, part of a desire to make and keep this a truly local press.
As an artist, I revel in wordplay, font-play, and creating physical iterations of the written word. This delight manifests in both my own books and the others I publish, as well as in my poetry art and fence signs. Natural materials present words in more tactile ways, so I rely on wood, metal, paper, and glass for my creations.
